Last December 11, 2009, the “Give Love on Christmas Program” in which the Red Cross Youth students sponsored was held in the Por Kristo: Home for the Aged in Abilan from 1 in the afternoon until 4. The students rode five multicabs from the Agusan National High School to their destination. They were brought by many teachers including the first year and second year RCY adviser – Mrs. Pamela Jane Cubillas and the third year and fourth year RCY adviser – Mrs. Elaine Anne Bayer.
The students were assigned to bring anything they can donate for the abandoned elders, like soap, toothpaste, old clothes, noodles, can goods and toothbrush. Upon arriving in Por Kristo, the students and the people from the housing had their little program. It started with the prayer that was lead by Miss Bambi and then the production numbers followed. The RCY students prepared some dance numbers with “Fire” and “Fire Burning” as their selected song and also song numbers dedicated to the elders. The elders from the housing also showed their talent to the students. One elder sang and the others danced. After all of the intermission numbers, the elders were all introduced to the students and then their snacks followed up. The students were all given the chance to tour in the housing to visit some of the other elders that weren’t able to attend the little program, they were given the chance to have a photo taken with the elders and they were also given the chance to bid the entire elders goodbye.
This activity gave the elders time and feelings of love from the students and they were also given the chance to experience happiness. This activity was done for the students to be reminded how important it is to value their parents because in the first place, they will never be here without them.
